Matthew’s Story

Meet Matthew, a Grade 12 student from Panorama Ridge Secondary School located in Surrey, British Columbia, and also a GrantMe Marketing Intern. With GrantMe’s support, he applied to over 90 scholarships and won over $35,000 in scholarships, including the Queen’s Commitment Bursary Scholarship worth $8,000. With GrantMe’s support, he will be attending the Smith School of Business at Queen’s University next year.

Matthew’s Strategy

Before GrantMe and his scholarship journey, he struggled to find his voice and create a story out of his writing. He also had trouble with feeling unmotivated after applying for 60 scholarships and not hearing back from any scholarship committees.

However, GrantMe’s 1-1 support taught him that he needed to play the long game while waiting patiently for results. The essay editing team also helped him find his voice and enabled his best writing through several edited essays that left him with editing suggestions and long-term advice.

He joined GrantMe to secure his future which motivated him to continue to apply for as many scholarships as possible despite any struggles; the support team also taught him how to reuse scholarships effectively but remain authentic in all applications.

Matthew’s Future Goals

After his commerce degree at Queen’s University, Matthew aspires to pursue a sports marketing career back home in British Columbia to highlight the social impact occurring in the sports industry. GrantMe has already supported his sports journey by helping him secure a youth internship with the National Hockey League during his Grade 12 year.

Matthew’s Success

Matthew won over $35,00 in scholarships and secured a monumental youth scholarship with the National Hockey League. He was one out of the 32 North American other youth selected to be part of the program with GrantMe’s support. Matthew is excited to move across the country and study commerce at Queen’s University next year, and he is grateful to continue to have GrantMe’s support during his post-secondary education.
