Why Should You Join Clubs in University

Heading into university can be a challenging experience. Life may become tiresome and alienating with so many classes, seminars, lecture tutorials, and tests. You may find yourself isolated from your peers, friends, and social circles. Concentrating completely on your schoolwork can be overwhelming, and it can increase the struggle of meeting new friends in post-secondary.
Joining a club, on the other hand, makes the process of meeting friends much easier! Universities generally feature a myriad of student clubs that are targeted to your interests or your identity that you may join! Do you want to know why you should join a university club? Continue reading to learn some of the most important reasons!
1. Form Lasting Friendships
Many students find university challenging since they are pushed into a strange environment and need to adjust their social lives. Not to mention the fact that many students entering university don’t have the friends they had in high school with them during their post-secondary journey; some must make new friendships from scratch. Clubs, in this area, can help students create long-lasting friendships as they connect students with peers who share their common interests. Students will feel more connected to their school as a result of meeting more people, which will make students happier and more at ease in the long term.
2. Clubs Can Be a Fun Break from Studies
Everyone needs a mental health break now and then, and attending a student club can provide that for you. Despite the fact that it may appear counterintuitive, joining clubs can assist students in reducing their stress. Despite the fact that clubs are another task to do on top of courses and homework, they can alleviate student stress since they are generally pleasant group activities that people love participating in; students don’t feel like it’s a responsibility but rather a break from their school life!
3. A Great Opportunity to Network
Clubs, as previously said, are an excellent location to make new acquaintances. They’re also a terrific way to meet individuals from your institution or major and establish networking relationships. Club advisers and other alumni are always eager to assist someone they met through a mutual association, such as a university club. Students can use these relationships to their advantage while looking for internships or jobs following graduation. Alma Mater Societies are a perfect example, check out Queen’s for example!
4. Clubs Can Enhance Your Routine
Many students at university have so much spare time that they don’t know what to do with it. As a consequence, students may feel that they can postpone their assignments because they will have more time later, rather than being productive and completing it in a timely manner. Students who join clubs, on the other hand, have a more consistent schedule and orderly routine. Students in clubs gain more time management skills since they have to organize their schedules to attend their clubs every week at a certain time. Because students in clubs have responsibilities to attend to during club hours, it forces these students to set aside an enhanced plan for when they will focus on their schoolwork.
5. Gain Experience for your Resume
Even while most employers are more intrigued with your working experience, having club experience that is relevant to your future profession never hurts. If you want to get into graphic design, for example, it’s highly advisable to have been a member of a design club so you can talk about your expertise. This is especially true if you are the president of a student organization. Employers want employees with qualifications and expertise, and being a group leader demonstrates just that.
Clubs are an important element of student life and a fantastic way to make the most of your university experience! So, what do you have to lose? Go ahead and get involved!
