Western University – Western University Acceptance Rate

Ranked among the top 1% of higher education institutions globally, the Western University acceptance rate is approximately 58%. With more than 400 combinations of undergraduate majors, minors, and specializations, Western University holds the highest national entrance averages of first-year students at 90.6%.

To be considered for admission, applicants must achieve a minimum 80% average on six Ontario Grade 12U- or M-level courses, including the required courses for your program. Some programs require a higher GPA, so make sure to check out Western’s Requirements Page for more information. Just remember, admission is competitive and achieving the minimum average does not guarantee admission!

Some programs also need more information to make an admission decision and different programs require different preparation in order to be successful. For example, you’ll need to know some math and science to be prepared for engineering!

We recommend that you use your time effectively in your last year of high school to really boost your GPA — so choose your courses effectively, keep yourself organized and stay on top of your assignments. It will pay off greatly when it comes time for university admissions!

In general, Western uses this information to evaluate your application:

  • Your overall performance in your most recent curriculum
  • How you did in courses required for your program
  • Any optional or required supplementary forms
