The UBC B.Des Application

UBC’s Architecture program doesn't do things the same way other programs do. You won’t see a requirement for a traditional portfolio, for example. But what you should expect is a unique application process designed to separate the most creative thinkers from the group.

Outside of your GPA, you’ll craft a standout application by preparing for the following parts of the application process:

• Creative Test: A 3-part online design challenge with no right or wrong answers. It’s a fun and interactive way to get a sneak peek into your design abilities and unique perspective.
• Resume: A summary of the experiences that showcase who you are as a person, including your academic background, work experience, volunteer work, leadership roles, and any other relevant experiences.
• Video Interview: A short interview where you’ll be asked to discuss a building, urban design or landscape that’s been inspirational and meaningful to you. They’re looking for a solid communicator with critical thinking skills who has a clear passion for the field of architecture.

UBC Architecture Application Deadlines

As you build your application, be sure to keep these deadlines in mind.

Applications open in September, with January 15th being the last date to submit all your materials. While it may seem like a long time, it’ll fly by faster than you think. 

As many of our past students know, the key is starting early. B.Des is the most competitive architecture program in the country, with only 50 openings per year. The students who invest in preparation are the ones who get in.

Gather your transcripts, focus on adding relevant experiences to your resume, perfect your pitch and start brainstorming creative test projects.
