What Is Dalhousie Nursing All About?

The Dalhousie University School of Nursing was founded in 1949 as part of Dalhousie’s Faculty of Health Professions. Their impact on society is exhibited through the compassion and competence of its graduates, the standards of research produced, and the vital contributions it has made to health-related public policy. It is driven by values like leadership on many fronts, diversity, equality and social justice, and collaboration, and other core values.

What Are The Different Nursing Programs at Dalhousie University?

For the Undergraduate Programs, you have 4 approved Nursing Certificates:

1. Perinatal and Pediatric Nursing
2. Public Health Nursing
3. Mental Health Nursing
4. Acute/Critical Care Nursing

You can also decide to go further into the Graduate Program. For the Graduate Program, you have the following options:

1. Master of Nursing (MN)
2. Master of Science in Nursing (MScN)
3. Doctor of Nursing (Ph.D.)

Dalhousie University also was the option to get a certificate in prescribing:

1. Certificate in RN Prescribing

How Long Will it Take to Finish Dalhousie Nursing?

For direct entry students, you will be able to complete the program over 3 calendar years or 8 semesters. For advanced standing students, it will take 2 calendar years or 6 semesters, offering graduates the opportunity to enter practice one year earlier.

What Are The Requirements Needed to Get into the Nursing Program at Dalhousie University?

You need to meet some basic requirements to get into the university, like the completion of secondary school (Grade 12), a minimum overall average of 70% in 5 academic Grade 12 courses, a final grade of at least 70% in Grade 12 academic English, and other required subjects.

You are required to take a CASPer Test.

This requirement is a 90-minute computer-based online assessment. There are also some advanced standing entry requirements. If you are an advanced standing student, you need to have all of the required non-nursing courses completed with at least 30 credit hours.
