What To Do Before You Apply:
As of October 1, you can apply to McGill! However, before you apply, it is important that you cover the following bases of the pre-application to-do list, which include:
- Understanding which deadlines apply to you
- Preparing your academic documents
- Identifying supporting documents you'll need to provide
Make sure you check out McGill's "Get Ready to Apply" page as they will provide exact deadlines for your program, and the required supporting documentation that you'll need to apply.
How To Apply:
In order to apply to McGill, you will need to first enter your biographical information, and then begin applying for your admission. This includes indicating your educational background and citizenship, but most importantly, it involves declaring the programs you're applying for!
- After you declare the programs you are interested in, it'll be time to enter your personal information like your home address and, depending on your situation, additional information like varsity teams you want to join or a more detailed high school history.
- Depending on your program, you might need supplemental materials; for example, you might need a music letter of recommendation if you apply to the Schulich School of Music!
- Your last step in applying will be to confirm and submit your application.
- In order to submit your application, you will need to pay the $122.52 application fee payable by credit card online (non-refundable). You can apply to two programs with one application fee! If you want to apply to more than two programs, you will need to submit and pay for another application.
Important Tips:
- Utilize both program choices!
- You can include two program choices in your McGill application for the price of one! And it doesn't matter what order you use. Both program choices will be reviewed and you will receive a separate decision for each one (though you may not receive these decisions at the same time).
- Have a credit card handy when you submit your application!
- You can preview and print a copy of your application before paying the fee.

What to Do After You Apply:
So, the hard part is over... now what?
First, you'll want to keep track of your Login ID and PIN.
- When you create your account, you'll be asked to select a Login ID and PIN. Be sure to save this information so you can log in to your application while working on it. Your Login ID and Pin will give you access to the Minerva system.
- The Minerva system will allow you to track the status of your application and what your to-do's are to complete your application, if needed!
Next, you'll want to check your email address regularly.
- McGill will connect with you from time-to-time through email to provide important information regarding your application and how to complete your file. Make sure you enter the correct email address and watch your inbox for notifications.
Then, you should apply for an entrance scholarship!
- McGill offers plenty of entrance scholarships and bursaries. You can work on these applications after you apply; however, we recommend you start working on your application at least a month ahead!
Finally, continue to submit your required documents and self-report your grades. These are necessary for McGill to use in the decision process for your potential offer of admission!
Tuition:
After you apply, it is also a wise idea to start thinking about tuition! Your residency status will be evaluated after you've been admitted to McGill. For more information about residency requirements, consult this Legal documents website.
