Before going over the steps to apply, take note that the UofA application deadline is January 15, 2022.

Getting Started:

First, you’ll need to decide where and what you want to study:

  1. Explore program options. As a high school student, you can list two program choices on your application – this will give you the best chance of receiving an admission offer!
  2. In order to be considered for admission, you must meet the course requirements, the minimum average, and language proficiency. Make sure to refer to the Requirements Page to ensure you meet all the requirements.

Depending on what type of student you are, your transcripts may be sent to the university automatically, or you may need to arrange to have them sent. Check out this page to see how your transcripts need to be sent.

How much will the University of Alberta cost?

The average cost of tuition, books and fees per year at the University of Alberta is approximately $9190 and a residence and meal plan raises that cost to $21, 590 for a Canadian student. For international students, first-year tuition costs, on average, $29,500. For a more accurate number on the cost of your specific program, use this Undergraduate Cost Calculator.

On top of those costs, there’s also an Application Fee. In order to submit your application, you must submit an application fee of either CAD $125 application fee (for new applicants to the University of Alberta) or CAD $75 (for current or previous University of Alberta students). This application fee is non-refundable so make sure you’re positively sure when applying!

How to Apply to the University of Alberta

Click on the “Apply Now” button on the UofA website to begin the application process.

  • High school applicants: you will first be taken to the ApplyAlberta website, then back to the UAlberta application form. The ApplyAlberta website is like the OUAC but in Alberta. It allows you to apply to undergraduate programs at one or more of Alberta’s post-secondary institutions.
  • Login to ApplyAlberta to submit your application.
  • Create a MyAlberta Digital ID if you do not already have one. If you have previously used ApplyAlberta, you will need to transfer your former SIAMS account to your MyAlberta Digital ID.
  • You can then receive your Alberta Student Number (ASN) using the ASN Lookup service or allowing the ApplyAlberta system to assign one to you.
  • Next, input the names of all high schools and post-secondary institutions you have attended or are currently attending. You’ll also need to input your high school courses and interim marks (for currently enrolled Canadian students only).

Check Your Status

  • After you’ve submitted your application, you will have access to the UAlberta Launchpad portal to check your application status and review any checklist items for your program.
  • In addition to access to the UAlberta Launchpad portal, you will also be assigned a new UAlberta email address, a unique student number, and a Campus Computing ID (CCID). Your CCID will grant you access to your email account, and to Bear Tracks.

Submit Supporting Documents:

  • Check your To-Do List in UAlberta Launchpad to see what outstanding documents and other items are still required. Based on the program you apply for, you will be asked to upload these documents along with your application.High School Students:
    • Grade 11 and 12 grades
    • High school transcripts
    • Alberta student number
    • University of Alberta campus choice
    • Program you would like to apply to
    • Method of payment for the application fee (credit card)

Remember, August 1 is the final document deadline for high school applicants!

Current or Previous University/College Students will need these supporting documents:

  • Academic history
  • Transcripts (digital copy of high school and post-secondary)
  • University of Alberta campus choice
  • The program you would like to apply to
