If you’re looking to attend university in British Columbia, you’ve likely come across Simon Fraser University (SFU)! Ranked among the top 12 universities in Canada, it’s a dream school for many. Program Requirements

Your first step in how to get accepted to SFU is to check out the admissions requirements for the programs that interest you! Most SFU programs require you to have completed a few specific high school courses. They also require you to achieve a minimum grade point average (GPA). This minimum GPA is typically around 70% to 80%. However, we recommend aiming for a GPA in the 90% range to be a competitive candidate.

However, if you find that you don’t quite meet the minimum, SFU also offers Diverse Qualifications admissions! If you can show your qualification for SFU in other ways than academics (such as athletics, community service, overcoming adversity, or more), you may still be offered admission.

General Application

Now that you’ve checked your program requirements, it’s time to start on the real process of how to get accepted to SFU! 

To apply for most programs at SFU, all you need to do is fill out some basic information about yourself and your prior schooling. You will then need to upload your transcripts to verify your grades.

Supplementary Application

If you’re applying to a few select programs, your next step in how to get accepted to SFU may be a supplementary application! This is an extra application in addition to your general application. For creative programs, this is typically a portfolio or audition. For a few other programs, this could be a written statement or resume. 

If a supplementary application is necessary for you, try to demonstrate what makes you an excellent fit for SFU.

Make sure to highlight what you will contribute to the university. How will you use your previous volunteer experience to make an impact on campus? What experiences or skills will you contribute to academics? How will you promote student engagement?
