Important Dates McGill: Overview (2022)

McGill strives to provide its students with the best possible educational experience. In order to do this, they have several important dates that students need to be aware of. Some of these include registration deadlines, application deadlines, orientation dates, and start and end dates for classes. Students need to be aware of these important dates to plan their schedules accordingly and make the most of their time at McGill.

Important Dates for McGill First-Year Students

June 6

Course registration begins for newly admitted Quebec CEGEP scholarship recipient students

June 8

Course registration begins for all newly admitted Quebec CEGEP students (including Marie-de-France and Stanislas)

June 13

  • Course registration begins for scholarship recipients

June 15

Course registration begins for all students admitted to year U1 (this includes students who will be completing Advanced Levels or CAPE, French Baccalaureate, International Baccalaureate or at least one year of university).

June 16

Registration begins for all new undergraduate students admitted to year U0 (Freshman year) in Arts (including Social Work), BA & Sc, Education, Management, Music and Religious Studies

June 17

Registration begins for all new undergraduate students admitted to year U0 (Freshman year) in Agricultural & Environmental Sciences, Engineering (including Architecture), Nursing, Physical & Occupational Therapy, and Science

June 30

Final deadline for need-based financial aid application for Entrance Bursary Program from McGill (https://www.mcgill.ca/studentaid/scholarships-aid/future-undergrads/need)

Beginning August 1

All students looking to obtain a Montreal reduced-fare public transit (OPUS) card can order it directly from Minerva

August 14

Deadline for all new students to register in at least one course to avoid a late registration penalty

August 16-18 (tentative)

Newly admitted McGill students may earn a course exemption from one or more basic science courses by taking an admission placement exam before starting classes.

August 20-21

Residence move-in weekend

August 21-27

Orientation Week

August 31

Deadline for cancellation of registration in, or deferral of admission to the Fall term

Fee payment deadline

August 31

Classes begin

September 1

First month of rent charged for Residence (if applicable); 1st installment of mandatory meal plan charged (if applicable)
