SFU Psychology: Overview

At Simon Fraser University’s Department of Psychology, they will educate you on a wide range of areas of specialization, helping you obtain in-depth training in theory and quantitative methods. Students will also obtain proficient language skills through written and oral presentations.
Acquiring the necessary practice, especially in the critical analysis of issues in psychology will improve their students’ empirical, analytical, and inferential skills, allowing you to prosper in your field of work after graduating.

Why Study at SFU Psychology?
SFU places high value on research activities, the university considers it to be an important component in their teaching activities, hence a research intensive environment. Being equipped with this standard, students will have plenty of opportunities to work closely with faculty. It is important that students pursuing a program in psychology should:
- Want to understand people.
- Be willing to undertake an orderly scientific approach to understanding the rich and complex nature of human behaviour.
- Be willing to invest a great deal of time and effort in their studies.
The Department of Psychology has six core areas of psychology they offer at both M.A. and Ph.D. degree programs, such as Clinical Science, Cognitive and Neural Science, Developmental Psychology, History, Quantitative & Theoretical, Law and Forensic Psychology, and Social Psychology. However, at the undergraduate studies level, they offer B.A and B.A. Honours in Psychology, as well as major, minor, and extended minor for students pursuing a degree in another discipline.
Additionally, SFU has a Clinical Psychology Centre (CPC), which is a training clinic that is part of the Simon Fraser University Clinical Psychology Program, giving graduate students high quality clinical psychology training under supervision.
After graduating, students will be armed with the necessary knowledge and skills to pursue careers in jobs such as:

SFU Psychology General Requirements
Students will need to submit an English language requirement, Quantitative and analytical skills requirement, and a minimum of five approved Grade 12 courses, including English Studies 12 (min 70%) or equivalent.
