What You Need to Know Before Applying to Queen’s University

If you’re looking for a high-quality education in one of the best cities in Canada, Queen’s University should be on your radar! Queen’s is one of the best medical-doctoral universities within Canada and ranks #11 among Canadian universities overall. Here are a few things you need to know about Queen’s before submitting your application.

The Queen’s Campus

Queen’s University is located in Kingston, Ontario. Right on the shores of Lake Ontario and only two hours away from Toronto, the biggest city in Canada, it’s the best of both worlds. The campus is on the smaller side with a student population of 28,272. However, their students are diverse coming in from over 100 different countries. They also rank 2nd in residential living, so if you’re looking to live on campus, you’ll no doubt have a great experience!

Getting into Queen’s

The Queen’s acceptance rate is a bit on the lower side at 42%. This means that approximately 4 out of 10 students that apply get in. In addition to your transcript, students must submit an additional application. Called a Personal Statement of Experience (PSE), it asks questions about any awards you’ve received, your extracurricular experience, and any work experience. Although this may seem intimidating, the PSE allows you to highlight your leadership experiences and strongly demonstrate why Queen’s is a great fit for you.

At GrantMe, we’ve helped hundreds of students apply to Queen’s and get in. As a student in your program, we can help provide with you essay editing and mentorship to ensure you submit a stellar application!

Paying for Queen’s

The cost to attend Queen’s University is around the mid-range for Canadian universities. The program tuition averages around $6153 each year.

Luckily, they also offer scholarships to help cover this cost! One of their biggest and most prestigious is the Queen’s Chancellor Scholarship worth $36,000! Queen’s awards most of their scholarships for superior academic ability, creative and original thinking, involvement in school or community activities, and proven leadership. However, some awards also prioritize financial need.

Is Queen’s Right for You?

Knowing about the campus, acceptance rate, and tuition costs will help you to determine whether Queen’s University should be on your list of schools to apply to.

However, sometimes the best way to determine if a university is right for you is to talk to current students. To learn more about what it takes to get into Queen’s, read Jonas’s post on our blog and learn how he won over $51,000 in scholarships to pursue computer engineering at Queen’s!
